Department Director

Tom Rose has been serving the Town of Smyrna as Public Works Director since 2015. Tom is responsible for existing infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, and storm water systems. He manages the Vehicle Maintenance and Building and Grounds Departments, and has oversight of Mapleview Cemetery.  As Director of Public Works, he reviews and approves Grading Permit submittals, Right-of-Way Use Applications, and Fence Applications.

Tom began working for various engineering consulting companies in 1998 and held professional engineering licenses in Tennessee, Florida, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. His work included preparing civil site construction plans for commercial projects and residential subdivisions, utility and road design, parks and sports complex design, and performing environmental investigations.

In addition to his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Tom also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Arkansas State University.

Tom and his wife, Angie, have three daughters. As a family, they enjoy camping in the variety of State and Corp of Engineer Parks across the southeast
