The only time the Town of Smyrna will install a “Children at Play” sign is near a public park or play area. For liability reasons, the Town does not put “Children at Play” signs in other areas. Drivers must be aware that there are children at play in all neighborhoods. More details...
- An Agreement for Fence/Structure application must be filled out any time you construct, move or replace any accessory structure on your property. The Smyrna Zoning Ordinance does place restrictions on where fences can be erected. The Smyrna Planning office has a copy of most subdivision plats which illustrate any easements, property line dimensions, locations where property pins should be, etc. The Town does not survey property. No one shall cut, build, or maintain a driveway across a curb or sidewalk without first obtaining a permit from the Public Works Department. (Ordinance Information)

The Town of Smyrna requires that leaves of loose yard clippings be in a biodegradable lawn bag. (This is a heavy paper bag.)
The Town follows the guidelines of the Tennessee Department of Public Health and therefore, does not spray for mosquitoes. More details...
There is no need to call for this service. The trucks follow a “route” and pick up whatever is out when they go by.
The Town of Smyrna does not have a place for the public to take limbs or yard waste. They can be taken to the Rutherford County Landfill in Murfreesboro.

There is no way to know when the trucks will be in any certain area. The length of time between pick-ups varies depending on how many loads they pick up on a cycle. The average length of time between pick-ups is 2-3 weeks. (Keep in mind that in the spring time or after a storm it may be longer due to the volume that they pick up.)
These bags can be purchased at any of the local hardware stores, hardware departments or home improvement stores.
To have a dead animal removed from a public street or right-of-way, please call (615) 459-9766 or click here to submit online. The Town then contacts Rutherford County Animal Control who keeps someone under contract for this service. The Town does not pick up dead animals.
