JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, is responsible for equipment operation of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. An employee in this class operates a variety of trucks and other equipment in the maintenance and repair of utilities and other facilities. This class differs from that of Equipment Operator II in that an incumbent of the latter operates equipment at a higher skill most of the time whereas, an incumbent of this class use high skill only a portion of the time. Will be responsible for after hour calls (on-call) on a rotating basis.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
• CDL required or must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Prior experience and working knowledge in all aspects of utility construction preferred.
• Must be able to wear mandatory safety equipment.
• On call personnel must live within 10 miles of Town limits to handle a 15-minute response time for emergencies in the Town.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs a variety of public works and utility construction, maintenance and repair work including: driving and assists in installation and repair of utilities; does manual labor as required.
• May do some welding and fabrication.
• May occasionally operate the following and other equipment at a relatively routine level of skill: rock saw, back hoe, trencher, dump truck, bobcat, jet truck, tapping machine, camera truck, and vacuum truck; performs maintenance checks to equipment operated.
• Makes water taps, installs service lines.
• Repairs sewer blockage, using steel tape or jet truck
• Flushing hydrants and blow-off valves in accordance with our flushing program.
• Backflow testing

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide coverage in absence of other personnel.
• Other duties as assigned
