JOB SUMMARY
The WTP Operator II is to be viewed as a training position. The goal for the WTP
Operator II is to learn plant operations thoroughly and prepare for the State of
Tennessee Grade 3 or Grade 4 Water Treatment Operators examination. Once the
criterion has been met with experience and certification, the WTP Operator II
will be considered for promotion to the Grade 3 or Grade 4 Operator position
respectively. Access and operate all process equipment, above and below ground
level. Perform all necessary operational and maintenance duties of the water
treatment plant. Operate computer using a windows environment, use spreadsheets,
word processors, and utilize computerized SCADA system.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED with a background in algebra.
Must obtain Grade IV Water Treatment certification within 36 months.
Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Train to operate and maintain all water treatment plant equipment.
Monitor plant operations regularly for proper operation and treatment. Make
any changes needed as directed by supervisor or Standard Operating Procedures
(SOP).
Train to recognize plant status. Troubleshoot and perform corrective actions
in plant operations as directed by supervisor or SOP to ensure finished water
quality meets or exceeds the standards of EPA and the Tennessee Department of
Environment and Conservation.
Train to perform all necessary laboratory work required for observation and
control of the water treatment plant in order to meet treatment plant, State and
Federal regulations.
Train to perform maintenance of equipment related to operations of the water
treatment plant to include calibration of feeders and instruments, repair
feeders, pumps and etc.
Train to operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
Train to perform plant calculations for chemical dosages, chemical usage, flow
rates, detention time, and all other calculations necessary for the proper
operation of the water treatment plant.
Train to enter and update files on computer for preparing reports,
spreadsheets, historical information, maintenance records and letters.
Maintain sanitary cleanliness of work areas, the treatment plant and
associated facilities. Focus on areas directed by assistant manager.
Maintain records in compliance to Federal, State and City regulations.
Train to work safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State and City regulations.
Report any accidents immediately to supervisor.
Correctly wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
Conduct behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively
on customers perception of the Town of Smyrna.
Promote the teamwork environment. Assist coworkers when necessary.
Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform duties as required by the lead operator or the assistant manager.
Required to work shifts. Shifts will be assigned by assistant manager.
May have to work after hours in emergency situations.
Review daily operational records to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to
end of shift.
Train for Grade 3 and Grade 4 Water Treatment certification.
Must be able to wear mandatory safety equipment when required (SCBAs,
full-face respirators, chemical resistant clothing, etc.).
