Smyrna
Fire Department Citizens' Fire Academy Class
The
Smyrna Police Department will be hosting a women’s self–defense class in
June.
This class is for
women only and it is based on the
RAD-SYSTEM of
self-defense. RAD (RAPE, AGGRESSION and DEFENSE) is a self-defense program
designed to enhance a woman’s natural desire to RESIST rape/aggression as
well as enhance the human natural “fight or flight” response when dealing
with aggression. The entire 12 hour course is broken down into 4 separate, 3
hour classes. The course not only teaches women techniques for physical
defense but also teaches women techniques to prevent a potential attack
through “situational awareness” and trusting their “sixth sense.” Women will
also have the opportunity to test their newly learned skills in a controlled
environment during a training simulation with an aggressor.
• The dates for the class are Jan. 31st, Feb. 1st, 7th and 8th (Tuesday and
Wednesday nights) from 6 pm – 9 pm.
• Mother/daughter student teams are strongly encouraged.
• Minimum age is 12 years old without a maximum age for participation.
Juvenile students will need a parent/guardian release.
• Cost for the class is $25.00 per household.
• For more information about the RAD system of self-defense, you may go to
www.rad-systems.com
• Anyone interested in taking the Jan./Feb. class
should contact Sgt. Bobby Gibson at (615) 459-9742, ext. 2536 or via email

Where to Retire?
The Town of Smyrna has been recognized as one of the top 25 suburbs for retirement. Forbes Magazine published its list in the August 1st edition of its online publication.
Gallery: The Top 25 Suburbs For Retirement
Cost of living and
tax climate for retirees were considered when compiling the list. Smyrna’s Cost
of Living is eleven percent below the national average.
Suburbs considered had to be within a twenty-five mile radius of a big city.
Forbes Magazine also collected data from city-data.com. Crime rates, air
quality, the availability of hospitals and higher education were also evaluated.
Smyrna has a population of about 40,000 residents. Other cities on the list
include Plano, Texas with a population of 260,000 and Lauderdale, Minnesota,
population 2,200.
Low-Cost Non-Potable Water Is Now
Available In Smyrna
The Town is adding repurified water to its water supply offerings for its
customers. Repurified water is water that has been treated for limited public
use through the waste water plant. The repurified water is limited to
non-potable or non-drinking water use by state regulations. The twice-treated
water is treated with ultraviolet exposure and chlorination to achieve
disinfection.
Potential Uses? Irrigation, landscape impoundments, wetlands wildlife
habitats, streams, industrial cooling, toilet flushing, vehicle washing, crop
irrigation, recreational impoundments, and some industrial uses.
Where Is This Available? The distribution mains will be located along Sam
Ridley Parkway, Nissan Blvd., and Stonecrest Parkway. Distribution mains and
services can be extended to existing irrigation customers and potential
committed customers who are within 1000 feet of the transmission mains.

from that customer. The prospective customer must apply for repurified water
service and provide an estimate of their repurified water use and location of
their meter.
For New Service Water Customers: If offsite reclaimed water system
improvements are required for any proposed development within 1000 ft. of the
repurified water supply mains, the developer shall pay the cost of all offsite
repurified water lines. The mains must be installed in accordance with the
Town’s standard specifications. If the Town has a need for the offsite or onsite
repurified water system to be larger than needed for the developer, the Town
will enter into a contract with the developer, prior to work commencing, to pay
for any upsizing needed by the Town.
Attached is a Repurified Water

Town of Smyrna Utilities. The application will assure that any customer desiring
to use repurified water can get served when a main is extended to their street.
Applications should be turned in no later than March 30, 2011 for the 2011
calendar year service.
If you have any questions concerning the repurified water supply, you may
