Smyrna Parks & Recreation
School and League Liaison
Smyrna Parks and Recreation takes pride in its
volunteer athletic leagues and ensures the best possible environment for the
children of our community. Accordingly, we require that all prospective coaches
attend the annual Coaching Certification, sponsored by The National Youth Sports
Coaches Association (NYSCA) and conducted by Smyrna Parks and Recreation. NYSCA
is a membership organization of the National Alliance for Youth Sports. The
NYSCA was created in 1981 to improve the out-of-school sports experience through
coaches training and holding its members accountable to a strick Code of
Conduct. To qualify membership, coaches must successfully complete the
Introduction to Coaching Youth Sports Program, conducted by certified NYSCA
Clinician, Monty Perkins, Smyrna Parks and Recreation. This program is designed
to help make volunteer coaches aware of their responsibilities to the
psychological, physical, and social development of youth through sports
participation. This program also covers practice organization and tips on
teaching sports specific techniques. Coaches are required to complete and
examination and sign the NYSCA Coaches' Code of Ethics Pledge. Failure to live up to this pledge can result in a range of
disciplinary sanctions from a warning to complete certification
revocation and
permanent removal from NYSCA membership. For additional information, contact
