Codes Enforcement - Building & Municipal

The Town of Smyrna Council has adopted Town Codes (laws) specifically designed to ensure the absence of blight, nuisances, and to maintain a clean environment for all citizens in our community. The Town of Smyrna does this by working in partnership with the citizens of Smyrna.

  • Administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and land use requirements.

Currently following 2006 International Building and Residential Codes

IN THE TOWN OF SMYRNA, BUILDING PERMITS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING:


Garages, Carports and Storage Buildings, both Portable and Permanent, Additions, Remodeling, Porches, Decks, Pools, Alterations to Existing Homes, Mobile Homes, Relocating a House in the Town, Grading, Demolition, Temporary Office Trailers, Temporary Tents, Signs and All New House and Commercial Construction.

All Buildings and Accessory Buildings must meet the setback requirements for the zone which they are in.

Please check your neighborhood restrictive covenants for additional restrictions.

Burn Permits are required and may be obtained by calling the Fire and Police Dispatch line at 459-6644.

Permit Fees are:
Effective July 1 2007
Residential: .26 per square foot ($25 minimum)
Commercial: .26 per square foot ($100 minimum)
Industrial: .26 per square foot ($300 minimum)

Impact Fees required for all new houses and commercial and Industrial Buildings. Call for details.

Commercial, Industrial, and Multi Family Permits require a Plans Review Fee of ½ of the Permit Fee ($100 minimum and $5000 maximum).

All Commercial, Industrial, and Multi Family Building require a Site Plan approved by the Planning Commission before Permits Issued.
