Paul is married to former Joy Irvin. They have two children, Michelle and Phil, and two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and John Thomas. They are lifetime residents of Smyrna and graduated from Smyrna High School.

In Paul's 20 years on the council, he has served as mayor, vice mayor, commissioner of fire and police, utilities and councilman. He was also a volunteer fireman for 13 years for the Smyrna Fire Dept.

Paul is retired from the Smyrna Post Office, serving 42 years, and was owner of Paul Johns & Son Appliance and TV for 20 years. He is also a licensed auctioneer, donating his service to charities and benefits.
