The Codes and Building Safety department provides three primary functions to the residents, employees and visitors of Smyrna.

Electric Permits and Inspections
Effective October 1, 2015, any new electrical installations, or modifications to any existing electrical systems will need to receive their permit from the Town of Smyrna’s Building Safety Department.  This applies to any commercial, industrial, or residential project; and applies to new construction, additions, or renovations of any kind.  Any projects begun on October 1st or later will be permitted and inspected by Smyrna’s Building Safety Department personnel. Smyrna contractors and homeowners will no longer have to drive to Murfreesboro to get electrical permits. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

The Town of Smyrna Building & Codes Department has adopted the following Building Codes:

  • 2012 International Building Code
  • 2012 International Residential Code (except chapters 11, and 34 through 43)
  • 2012 International Plumbing Code
  • 2012 International Mechanical Code
  • 2012 International Fuel Gas Code
  • 2012 International Property Maintenance Code
  • 2012 International Fire Code
  • 2009 International Energy Conservation Code
  • 2012 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code
  • 2012 International Existing Building Code
  • 2008 National Electric Code
