Chief Kevin Arnold was born in East Tennessee and raised in
Overton County. He moved to Rutherford County in 1979 to attend Middle
Tennessee State University. While in school, he attained a job with the
MTSU Police Department and began his career in law enforcement. He
graduated from MTSU in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal
Justice Administration, and began a job with the Rutherford County
Sheriff's Department as a Correctional Officer. In 1983, Asst. Chief
Arnold was promoted to Patrol Officer and attended the Basic Police
Academy in Donelson.
After serving for over seven years at the S.O., in the capacity of
Correctional Officer, Patrol, Narcotics Detective, and General
Detective, he was offered a position with the Smyrna Police Department
as a Patrol Officer in 1989. He was promoted to Detective in 1991,
Detective Sergeant in 1993, Major in 1994, and was appointed Assistant
Chief of Police in 1997.
Chief Arnold has completed many training courses in his career,
including Officer Survival, Criminal Investigations, Homicide
Investigations, Interviews and Interrogation, and others relating to
Police Administration. In 1997, Chief Arnold attended and
graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's 190th session of
the National Academy. In his spare time he enjoys cheering on his
favorite sports teams, reading non-fiction novels, traveling, cooking,
and an occasional chance to ruin a great day outside by chasing a little
white ball on a golf course.
Kevin Arnold was appointed Chief of the Smyrna Police Department April
4th 2007.
