Community Service Coordinator

Alesha Martin is
the Community Services Coordinator for the Smyrna Police
Department. Mrs. Martin attended Middle Tennessee State
University and graduated with honors with a Bachelors Degree in
Social Work. While at MTSU, Mrs. Martin had the opportunity to
work with the Rutherford County Department of Children's
Services and Metro Nashville Police Department's Domestic
Violence Division as an intern. She went on to complete her
Masters Degree in Social Work from Spalding University in
Louisville , KY. While at Spalding University , Mrs. Martin
worked with the Murfreesboro Police Department's Domestic
Violence Unit. Mrs. Martin has also worked with the Exchange
Club Family Center in Murfreesboro , TN.
The Community
Services Coordinator is responsible for a majority of the
prevention, outreach, and
intervention programs operated or facilitated by the department.
The Community Services Coordinator the department's liaison with
community groups, businesses, and residents. While all
commissioned officers and civilian staff engage in proactive
policing, the officer in Community Services coordinate the more
intensive prevention, educational, and evaluative efforts in the
department. Duties included being a liaison between the
Department and the Tennessee Department of Children's Services,
follow-up and monitoring of cases upon request from the
Department or other community agencies, and assistance to
members of the community upon referral or contact (including
domestic violence, child abuse, financial hardship, mental
health issues, etc.) Mrs. Martin is able to provide
training in the area of child abuse detection and reporting. She
also teaches a curriculum on safety to children Pre-school thru
third grade. Internet safety, domestic violence, and parenting
techniques are also topics that Mrs. Martin is able to present
when requested.
