Patrol Commander
Captain Jeffery W. Dwyer |
The Smyrna Police Department is
comprised (as of August 2010) of 77 sworn officers and 27
civilian employees. All of the men and women of the Smyrna
Police Department strive to provide the highest quality police
service available anywhere. We take very seriously our roll in
keeping the Town of Smyrna a pleasant, attractive, and safe
place to live.
Of the departments 77 sworn officers 44 are currently assigned
to the Patrol Division.
Members of the Patrol Division provide a wide variety of
services. These services include, but are by no means limited to
the following;
•
Traffic enforcement/ Traffic Control
• Crash Investigation
• Response to calls for service
• Response to calls for emergency medical service
• Investigation of reported criminal activity
• Directed neighborhood patrol
• Transportation of prisoners
• Court Security
• Service of Criminal Warrants
• Zones/Business patrol
• Education and community awareness
• Special projects and community events
As our town continues to
grow, so goes the workload of the police department. In an
effort to more efficiently and effectively meet the demands of
our community the department identified two additional functions
which have proven essential, our Warrants and Traffic Units.
These officers have been reassigned from our Patrol division and
have received additional training in their respective areas.
These officers are in addition to the 44 officers assigned to
Patrol.
Four officers have been designated as Warrants Officers. Their
primary function is the service of criminal warrants, subpoenas,
providing court security, as well as the scheduling and
transportation of prisoners to and from various detention
facilities and the appropriate court.
Six officers are assigned to Traffic Enforcement/Crash
Investigation. Having received extensive training in all things
traffic, these officers focus their efforts on the enforcement
of traffic laws, the investigation of vehicle crashes, and the
education of the public on a wide variety of traffic related
issues.
Rest assured that the dedicated men and women of the Smyrna
Police Department will continue to meet the challenges that the
future will surely bring. It is through continuous professional
service, education, and enforcement that we at the Smyrna Police
Department intend to keep Smyrna a pleasant, attractive, and
safe place to live and work.
