The Smyrna S.W.A.T. Team Tactical Dispatch unit is on 24 hour alert for immediate response to emergency situations requiring the S.W.A.T. team. The Tactical Dispatch Team is deployed with the S.W.A.T. Team and often has to accompany the Team for field duty on-site. Each Team member is accessible 24 hours a day by a regional AlphaPager, and may be sent detailed information on situations, locations, and pertinent data regarding these.

The Tactical Dispatchers report to the Scene Supervisor or Tactical Commander and are assigned duties according to situation priorities. After receiving a briefing of the situation, they then establish communication channels with the Smyrna Police Main Dispatch, and any other local authorities that may be involved.

The Tactical Command Post serves as a field dispatch console and headquarters for the field operation. All communication between Team members and any outside agencies are handled here. Some of the duties of the dispatchers are:

  • Maintaining an incident log
  • Checking and verifying suspect information
  • Logging threats / demands / hostages
  • Creating deployment charts
  • Maintaining Sniper Log
  • Location Information
  • Keeping Incident / Tactical Commanders informed of developments with the crime scene, tactical and support operations
