Traffic enforcement is
primarily the responsibility of the Uniformed Patrol Division. The
duties of the division consist of the following:
• Enforce applicable traffic violations at high accident locations
and throughout the town.
• Provide complete accident reconstruction and investigation on
serious injury and/or fatal traffic crashes.
• Provide police escorts for motorcades
• Work problem traffic areas that are identified by citizen’s
complaints and from within the department.
• Attend neighborhood meetings.

The safe movement of traffic and persons throughout the town is one
of the town council’s top priorities. As the town’s population
continues to increase, traffic related problems will continue to be
of utmost importance to the citizens of this community as well as
the Smyrna Police Department. With this in mind, the Traffic
Enforcement Division is doing its part to provide quality traffic
related services to the citizens of this community. We have adopted
a goal of “reducing the number of accidents within our town, and
those that we cannot prevent, we strive to reduce the severity of
it” This is accomplished by the following:
• Maintaining a “highly visible” presence while actively enforcing
traffic violations, especially hazardous ones, at high accident
locations.
• Educating and enforcing adult seatbelt and child safety seat
violators.
• Educating and enforcing helmet laws.
Through each one of our highly trained and skilled officers, the
Traffic Enforcement Division strives to maintain the
highest level of professionalism to insure the safest traffic
environment possible for those whom we serve.
