AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! That sound is the only way to describe what’s going on at the SOAC this Fall! Whether it’s a blood curdling scream at Fright Nights or just the shear excitement of our new exhibit on the way, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab! Once you’ve gotten all your screams out and your throat is too sore to speak, go on a quiet hike with us and hopefully you’ll see some wildlife during a Wilderness Walk.
The SOAC is thrilled to be the first recipient of a brand new exhibit, THOMAS EDISON’S SECRET LAB! Inspired by the animation and commitment to fun and adventures presented in the show, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab will showcase Edison, Angie and other characters, and invite visitors to join explorations of science topics with all kinds of fun and informative features! Put on your thinking caps and join us for the grand opening of this exhibit, November 13th!
|You’re gonna need to wind down a little from all this excitement. It’s the perfect time for a WILDERNESS WALK happening on November 10th, 9:00am-2:00pm, at Sharp Springs Park. Relax next to the campfire with a free hotdog lunch! (while supplies last). No cost and all ages are welcome! There will also be a Wildlife Demonstration by a TN State Parks Ranger! How cool is that!?!|
We’ll see you soon!
Summer 2018: Tater’s Tale
A Special Entry from Mr. Potato Head
Hiya’ folks! Mr. Potato Head here! I’ve felt so welcomed at the S.O.A.C., since my exhibit opened and I’m so glad y’all have been able to join in my adventures! I’ll tell ya’, it’s been nice to have some adventures indoors too because it sure has been hot out there! I’m starting to feel like a French fried ‘tater!
If you’re kids are bored and you want to stay cool, I highly recommend checking out the Climbing Club at the S.O.A.C. Tuesday mornings from 9-11am and Thursdays from 4:30-6pm. Staff have several fun games and challenges for climbers to have fun with and test their climbing abilities. I’d climb myself but my legs are too short! Registration is suggested through Community Pass.
I’ve ‘specially been impressed with all the fun Summer Camps the S.O.A.C. Program Specialists have created. Kids don’t have to go far to have adventures of their own during these awesome camps. There have been adventures with bugs, dinosaurs, safaris, outdoor survival and more!
I was also humbled to witness the community support for the Captain Jeff Kuss Memorial and be a part of the incredible Art Exhibit at the SOAC showcasing artwork honoring Captain Kuss. If you haven’t gotten a chance to check out the memorial and that awesome jet, I suggest you do!
I hope you have a GREAT rest of your Summer. I’ll be having fun at the S.O.A.C. until September and then moving on to my next adventure! Come see me soon!
Spring 2018: Odin’s Blog
If you have not met me, my name is Odin and I am the Russian Tortoise residing at the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center. My address is… uh… near the men’s bathroom at the S.O.A.C..
Today, I am coming ‘out of my shell’ to share with you all the wonderful things happening at the S.O.A.C.… I just can’t contain my excitement anymore! I love seeing all your smiling, happy faces and I want to make sure my terrarium walls continue to be plastered with curious friends who visit me.
Fun fact about me: Russia is not my only hometown! You would think so, by my name title, but my family can also be found in Iran, China and Pakistan. Also, I am an herbivore – I really like to eat collard greens, kale and carrots. But back to what’s up at the S.O.A.C….
May 15th will be the last day for the public to check out our traveling exhibit, Turtle Travels. As much as I’ve enjoyed seeing all of you learn more about me and my relatives I’m super excited for the next exhibit, The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head! And even though I’m a dessert-dwelling kind of fella’, the pool at Splash Town will be opening up May 26th! You can even book at birthday party in one, or both, of our party rooms and make it a Swim Party! Call our staff for more details: 615-459-9710.
The S.O.A.C. staff is also gearing up for many awesome Summer Camps; everything from safaris, to bugs and butterflies, wilderness survival, and dinosaurs! If you are interested, there is limited space, so sign up today. Also, I dream about how amazing it would be to go on a FREE, guided Kayak Trip for kids 12 and older! Kayaks, PFD’s, and paddles will be provided. I asked the staff to make me a very tiny life jacket because I don’t do so well in the water like my turtle cousins – maybe I’ll see you on the water sometime!
Thanks for checking out my blog, but, I have to go now… there is a piece of kale calling my name.
