The department consists of a Director,  two Developers, an IT Supervisor, two Technicians, and a Network/System Administrator.  The Director coordinates, supervises, and manages the technology and communication support efforts for all departments of the municipality. As an integral member of the Town's management team, he provides technical planning, budgeting, and direction on all aspects of technology, communication and security issues. The Director reports to the Assistant Town Manager.

The department directly oversees the network infrastructure which consists of various network switches and routers interconnected via a fiber backbone. We also manage the telephone system that services Town Hall and all other locations.

The Information Services Department maintains over 400 secure networked computers in nineteen different locations. This includes set up, periodic upgrades, troubleshooting and security upgrades. Other responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive inventory of equipment, maintenance and organizing of shared files, hardware and software instruction for staff.
EmailSmyrna uses various standard email protocols in order to ensure that legitimate emails are properly delivered (both incoming and outgoing) and that inappropriate emails are rejected. In order for this to work, a sender's email system must be properly configured, but we've seen that there are many that are not.
