Love Where You Live
Love Where You Live is the Town's community beautification initiative with the goals of:
- Increasing pride in our town
- Raising awareness about litter and its effect on our community
- Identifying factors that contribute to litter
- Providing education about how we all can help reduce litter
- Creating an interactive process to encourage community involvement
- Incorporating citizen feedback to determine solutions
- Motorists generate 52% of litter along roadways and highways. On average there are 51 billion pieces of litter found on roadways, that’s 6,729 items per mile of roadway! (2009 Keep America Beautiful National Visible Litter Survey)
- Litter cleanup costs the U.S. more than $11.5 billion each year. (2009 Keep America Beautiful; Litter Cost Study)
- A strong contributor to littering is the prevalence of existing litter. About 15% of littering is affected by the environment, or existing litter. (2009 Keep America Beautiful National Visible Litter Survey.)
- Rainfall washes litter into storm drains.
- Storm drains lead to the nearest body of water and dump litter into our creeks and rivers.
- Those creeks and rivers drain into area reservoirs, which happen to be the source of our drinking water supplies.
- Take action! Keep your area clean.
