The Wastewater Treatment Plant for the Town of Smyrna is committed to serving the citizens of Smyrna as well as protecting the environment, receiving streams, and aquatic life.

We operate under several state and federal regulated guidelines here at the wastewater treatment plant. The wastewater treatment plant is a biological process with extended aeration basins. Our plant is currently rated for 5.86 MGD. We are currently under construction to expand to 9 MGD so that we can serve the citizens and industries more efficiently.

The biological process is very efficient and produces a high quality effluent. The effluent is then discharged into Stewarts Creek. The effluent water that is discharged into the creek is normally better quality than the actual creek water itself.

The wastewater treatment plant is a grade 4 treatment plant and we have several grade 3 and 4 operators that operate the plant. We also use ultraviolet disinfection rather than using chlorine. Ultraviolet disinfection is just as effective as chlorine and a lot safer for our employees here at the plant.

Here at the wastewater treatment plant we also have a reclaimed water system. This is used for irrigation purposes for the likes of the golf course, Stonecrest Hospital and many businesses on Sam Ridley Parkway. The reclaimed water is a way for businesses to irrigate at a fraction of the price.

The wastewater treatment plant has a pre-treatment program for industries and we have a good working relationship with these industries in the Town of Smyrna. We also have a F.O.G. (fats, oils, and grease) program with all of our restaurants in the Town of Smyrna and regularly inspect grease traps. The F.O.G. program is very imperative to the collections system and we at the wastewater treatment plant ask citizens not to dump grease down the drain.

We take pride in what we do here at the Town of Smyrna and hope that we can serve the citizens to the best of our ability.
